Take Care Lord

from The Valley's Girl by Cheryl Beer

about

It was Winter in Pontlottyn and I had managed to get an invite to a community meeting of older women who were getting together to dicuss their 'formal program of events'.

I had expected it to be a bit stuffy but when I arrived, I was the only woman that wasn't dressed up as a gnome! And pretty impressing dressing up too, no half measures. They had all come as Santa's helpers, stripey tights, bells and felted outfits.

We had a great sing song and it was all very lovely. Then one woman from the North of England, told me about her grand daughter's concerns that God was getting worn out ... the grand daughter had said 'if ought happens to the Lord, we're done in and sunk.' This became the inspiration for the song.

The verses were added to over the years when I worked with TSP Community Choir. We went on to perform this song in St.David's Cathedral and Glyn Vivian Art Gallery as well as The Millennium Centre Cardiff.
